Re: Dialing in that " Tone " Thang
Thanks for that, Iceman.
I had read Richard Hunter's page - and G's on going thru pas - but the places i been am lucky to get a pa - i f i do I am never allowed near it - monopolised by guitairists - - I can't go the expensive chicago tube route (don't get to play those blues much anyway) and thats why i got my big old keybrd amp when it bounced off the back of a truck.
I am getting a tone am 85% comfortable with thru an sm57 and rp200 - but if I (even gently) play the 3&4 draw or 4&5 draw together it sets up a crunch like a bulldozer idling - has the floor shaking beneath yr feet and that has my lead guitarist shooting anxious glances my way - (I got all gains as low as possible -that's 0 on the rp- bass all way up, treble dead - reverbs and delays dead - wanting nothing fancy just a strong clear tone -and yes, practise everyday). Octaves are ok, low bends are ok (I thought a badly done low bend would trigger it, when yu lose the control ofthe 'right " note it and it goes brrrrr between the different semitiones- but nope) - just those adjacent notes- though warbling across them is fine.
The amp's no big name brand (torque) and has 14/15 ins spkr(?) - so that may be the problem there i wouldn't know.
I knew that full on blues players were still getting bad distortion thru their bullets and tube amps and had heard of feedback killers (I assumed they'd be useless for solid state and i am not sure whether it is actually feedback- no squeal just keerrrunch)
- - I had wondered whether equing the damn amp further would cut the teeth of that crunch - that's why i was interested when i saw this guy with a small band guitar eq pedal and wondered if he was using it to cut feedback down.
Thanks for your post - it's printed and kept in my "what players do" folder- and i know a lot of people would be reading it with interest ( your post that is, not my folder).

I like direct to PA for my personalized style of harmonica sound. Most often
there is an SM-58 available. I remove windsaver, center the bass and mid
controls on that channel, turn the treble completely down and ask for a
mildsprinklingofreverbandordelay. This is done very quickly and with a minimum of
soundchecking.
To take this to the next stage, I will bring my Ruskin Mic, two 10 ft guitar
cables, Boss Digital Delay (old vintage one) and wall wart, and extension
cord. Mic into cable into Delay into PA channel. Same setting of tone levels and
this time NO EFFECTS through the PA. I now have complete control of my own
delay.
